Attractions and Features
This is an area with Nagasaki City West and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Nagasaki Shipyard.Mitsubishi Heavy Industries owns a large-scale factory in the southern part of Nagasaki city in addition to Akunoura, but the most historic one is the Akunoura-ura factory.
The roots of the Nagasaki Yong Iron Plant, which was directly managed by the Edo Shogunate, were renamed as “Nagasaki Shipbuilding Bureau” under the Ministry of Engineering and government, and the Yataro Iwasaki was received it and became the birthplace of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and consequently the modern shipbuilding industry.
There is a former Tategami elementary school which became closing in this district where the top picture was taken, and there is an excellent atmosphere there. There is one caveat, and the road to the elementary school is very narrow, and a normal car cannot pass in the road of Nagasaki.
Traffic access
Both tram and JR are out of range.
It takes about 20 minutes to reach Nagasaki city centre.
Take the Nagasaki bus bounds for “Kaminoshima神ノ島” or “Tategami立神” and get off at the “Akunoura飽の浦” bus stop.The place where the top picture is taken is closest to the “Tategami” bus stop.
There is a limited number of coin parking and paid parking lots.The road is narrow and it is recommended to go by public transportation as much as possible because it is NG parking.
