“Koshi” is a Chinese philosopher famous for the ruling of the past is “Too much can be as bad as too little”. The Koshi-byo Temple is said to have dedicated the artifacts of Koshi, the one here in Nagasaki, “the only authentic Chinese-style mausoleum (official site quote)” in Japan.

Especially during the Lantern Festival in February, the temple is lit up with a lot of lanterns and it becomes a fantastic atmosphere, and a lot of entertainments such as The “face change” show which is very popular to tourists are held. Since the evening of the lantern period, admission fee becomes free, it is very recommended.

Traffic access

Recommended!5 minutes walk from the “Oura Catholic Church” station on the Nagasaki electric orbit.


It will arrive within 10 minutes of Nagasaki city centre.Please be aware that you may get caught in traffic during the lantern period.


From Nagasaki Shinchi Terminal, you can take a bus to the southern part of the city (Nomozaki/Tomachi) and close to “city hospital” or “Glover Garden mae” bus stop.About 5 minutes walk.


There is a paid parking lot next to the famous restaurant in Chanpon (Matsugae Dai 2 parking lot).It is about 5 minutes walk after parking there.Please note that there is a possibility that it is full during the lantern period.The location is on Google maps below.
